What happens when you mix Citric acid and Magnesium? I would like to know the actual chemical lingo?

I put a magnesium block into some water with some citric acid and watched it bubble and seemingly a vapor came off it as it bubbled. Please can you tell me what is going on when these two things are put together in a cup. Thank you
