Judges accountable for decisions?

I was reading an article regarding the horrible death of Ethan Stacy - the little 4 year old who died at the hands of his abusive mother and her fiance. A judge claimed not to have read the father's concerns regarding the biological mother's mental state and awarded her joint custody anyway. Because of this oversight, (gross understatement, but I'm trying to be civil) Ethan died an unimaginable death. Is it possible to hold the judge responsible for negligent decisions, especially those resulting in the death of a minor?
