Help mee parachute problem?

I am asked to make a parachute for a physics project to be thrown in the 3rd floor with an egg in which the egg will not break and so far no luck. I made a circle parachute with 8 strings and a rectangular parachute with 18. The egg always keeps on breaking. Does the parachute's speed get slower as it goes lower? And any tips to lengthen the parachutes life in air?
