Need Help with Xbox 360 not playing games, plays dvds, no red ring, out of warranty - makes loud noises?

This has been slowly happening over a while, i haven't played a video game in over 6 months, my 360 will no longer read video game disc. I put in dvds and it plays them fine. But if I put a video game in it does nothing. There is no red rings of death. It makes a lot of sounds and noises coming for the disc drive and when you open the tray the disc spins out of control. I finally disabled the auto play feature on the xbox360 so it would read the disc and i could then choose to go into it. I got the game to work for about 2 minutes, then loud noises and sounds from disc drive until it say "game unreadable remove and clear" . Now no matter what game i put in all it says is open tray. I can do anything else on my 360 such as play downloaded games, send messages, etc. When I put a game in it says "Reading" at the bottom, then stops and says "Open Tray" as if it couldn't read the game. If anybody has had this problem, or if anybody knows how to fix it please tell me. Times are tough right now, work is slow and i just wanted to play some old games to help p the time on weekends, i can't afford a new xbox360. let me know what i can do. Thank you
